www.usarmyvirtual.org
Come check us out, we're taking pilot and staff applications now!

This package contains a fictional representation of Ft Rucker, Alabama. It is the home of training for the US Army Virtual, a new VA flying the missions of the real world US Army Aviation Branch. The airfield has hangars, a firestation, fuel pits, an armor depot, water, radar, and radio towers, administration and living quarters, and a Post Chapel. Also includes two difficult helicopter obstacle courses and a LZ extraction mission.

Thomas Gambale has my expressed permission to upload this package in its entirety, including this document, to any freeware web site he choses for the purposes of supporting the US Army Virtual VA. It must still remain freeware. This is my gift to the opening of the US Army Virtual; good luck, guys, from a Jarhead (75-79, MCAS Cherry Point SAR Swimmer, CH-46A Pedro).

Scenery files created using Groundmaker by Vincent Koch.
My macros made using EOD by Matthias Bruckner. If you want one of them ask.
Tested in MSFS2002 only with terrain mesh.

This readme includes the disclaimer and credits, package description, and installation instructions. This scenery set uses some NOVA textures, a separate download if you don't already have them.

Package Description:
This package contains fictional scenery for Ft Rucker's Cairns AAF (I've never seen it). It also has two helicopter obstacle courses nearby to test your fine control skills and a Green Beret extraction mission. Each obstacle course has a NDB signal to help locate it. Cairns has several start locations which can be found in the Go To Airport menu, use the Add On Scenery button at the bottom of the window.

Ft Rucker Obstacle Course Alpha NDB 441 kHz N31 07.08 W086 03.15
About 20 NM West of Ft Rucker

Ft Rucker Obstacle Course Bravo NDB 442 kHz N31 35.70 W086 00.71
About 25 NM NW of Ft Rucker

LZ Easy Extraction Mission NDB 443 kHz N31 35' 16" W085 03' 13"
About 36 NM ENE of Ft Rucker along the Chattahoochee River, heading 070 to the infiltration site. Here is your mission scenario:

A Green Beret team has infiltrated an enemy outpost with the intent to destroy their armor and equipment. You will fly ENE toward the Chattahoochee River, plan on intercepting it south of the Walter E. George Reservoir, then fly low level up the river (you need to be LOW!! Think rooster tails behind your Huey). Your approach will be the distraction for the Green Berets to light up the enemy's armor. They will then hightail it due east to Landing Zone E (LZ EASY) about 1 NM away in a clump of oak trees. You will continue up the river until you come to the burning armor on the Georgia side, then turn due east (090). Your direction of travel and altitude of less than 200 feet AGL will be your identifier. If you approach from any other direction or altitude the Special Forces guys will shoot first and ask questions later, so get this right.

Look for the red beacon they will light as you approach. There is livestock reported in the area, don't hit any of them. Pick up the Special Forces team and return to Ft Rucker, maintain less than 500 ft AGL the whole mission.

Installation:

Make a new folder called Ft_Rucker. Under that, make two folders, named Scenery and Texture.

FS2002/scenery/Ft_Rucker/Scenery
and
FS2002/scenery/Ft_Rucker/Texture

All .bgl files (except Novalib.bgl, see below) go into Scenery subfolder and all the rest go into the Texture folder.

Place the burning drum effects file, found in the Effects folder in this package, into your FS2002/effects folder for the dynamic burning effect to work properly.

Start FS and go into your scenery library menu and add and activate this scenery.
